| Scene from the Fellini Museum |
Our first rest day was celebrated with a sleep in followed by a leisurely buffet breakfast at our hotel - and yes, there was cake on offer again!
We strolled along the central canal checking out the fishing boats, then up past the lighthouse to the end of the breakwater. There were lots of other people out enjoying the sunshine and Italian Liberation day. Some were even paddling in the Adriatic.
Our favourite film directed by Federico Fellini, Amarcord, was inspired by his upbringing in Rimini. We admired many sites linked to Fellini - the Grand Hotel and garden, a couple of rhinoceroses, a golden ring representing unity, the Fellini museum with memorabilia and displays from Fellini movies.
We also wandered along the old city walls to the Arch of Augustus (27 BC), the oldest preserved triumphal arch in Italy. We learnt about the history of Rimini in the city museum.
Tomorrow we head inland so finished our walk along the Adriatic coast with another magnificent fish dinner.
